Rotorua Sightseeing

Rotorua is at the centre of an active thermal area. Just minutes from the city centre, you will see geysers of hissing, steaming, scalding water roar from deep within the earth's crust and hurl spray 30 metres into the air.

Rotorua is also the heartland of New Zealand's Maori culture. Enveloping warmth, a proud spirit, a deep sense of history and a quick humor - you'll find all these qualities in your experiences with Maori culture. It's a sensation known as Manaakitangi.

Some of the highlights of today's tour include:

See how we still prepare and cook food using the natural steam vents, and see the mineral springs where we have bathed for generations. Some 500 pools and at least 65 geyser vents, each with their own name, are found on this site. Seven geysers are active, the most famous, Pohutu, meaning big splash or explosion. In front of visitors Pohutu can erupt up to 90 feet high, depending on its mood!

Melbourne - Day at Leisure

Melbourne is Australia's second largest city (after Sydney), but is second to none when it comes to
fashion, festivals and Aussie Rules football. Visitors come for its shopping, restaurants and
nightlife. Residents stay for its cultural diversity, passion for the arts and enviable sports
calendar. Melbourne is renowned for playing host to a number of nationally and internationally
recognized events each year including the Australian Open Tennis Grand Slam, the Australian
Formula 1 Grand Prix and the ever impressive 2 mile horse race - the Melbourne Cup.
A major event in Melbourne spreads an addictive buzz through the city streets and you can be sure
that locals and visitors alike will embrace the energy surrounding it. Whether it is a day at the
races or a local festival, you can be sure that Melbourne will excite and entertain. Catch a tram
to trendy Southgate, rub shoulders with locals at the Queen Victoria market or take in a show at
the ornate Princess Theater. For a break from the hustle and bustle, cruise along the Yarra River
or search for kangaroos and koalas as you come to appreciate a rich aboriginal heritage on an
exceptional off-the-beaten-track Savannah Walkabout tour.

Those interested in tennis can enjoy the opening round of the famous Australian Open Tennis Tournament today
The stadium is walking distance from our hotel, making for an easy transit to the tournament for anyone interested.
Passengers wishing to attend the tournament can buy tickets at the box office or ask our reservations
representative for more details on buying tickets in advance together with others in our group.

Tonight, join us for our optional excursion to witness the amazing ritual of the Penguin Parade on Phillip Island.

The Penguin Parade is a natural phenomenom that takes place each night.
The small fairy penguins, having spent their day at see hunting for food,
emerge at sunset and waddle from the ocean, across the beach to their rookery homes

We will watch this natural parade from large up close viewing platforms where we can observe
and photograph the adorable penguins, as they waddle by.
OPTIONAL TOURS IN MELBOURNE:

Savannah Walkabout (Includes Lunch) $109
A one day cultural and nature tour where you may see and learn about native animals and plants both in the famous open-range grasslands of Serendip Sanctuary on the Western Plains and in the bushlands just outside Melbourne. We search for kangaroos, koalas, bird life and discover a rich Aboriginal heritage.

Departing from your city hotel, we travel the short distance to the western plains of Victoria - one of the largest volcanic plains on earth. Open grasslands stretch in all directions with the occasional extinct volcano or ancient mountain range rising steeply out of the plain.  There is a distinctly 'Australian' feel about the region. Our first stop is Serendip Sanctuary, an open range reservation for rare and endangered indigenous wildlife of the Western Plains. Run by the National Parks Service, Serendip plays a pivotal role in the conservation of some of Australia's rarest birds, including the Bustard, Brolga and Cape Barren Goose.  Seek out the large free-range mobs of our tallest kangaroo, the Eastern-grey and family groups of the world's second largest bird, the Emu.

We have a bush lunch before travelling to the You Yangs Regional Park, to walk a wide Savannah of grass, bush and wetlands searching for kangaroos and koalas. The park has a large population of wild Koalas and we very rarely miss out on sighting a number of these delightful creatures, we also visit places of importance to the Aboriginal people of the region.

This is a very special small group experience with knowledgeable and passionate local guides who work in conjunction with the Victorian Government to study the Koala's in the national park to help better understand these amazing animals.

Yarra Valley Wineries (Includes Lunch): $79
Renowned for its quality wines, specialty foods and breathtaking scenery, the Yarra Valley is the ideal place to enjoy a day away from the city.

We depart Melbourne for the Yarra Valley - it is about an hour to Yering Station Vineyards, one of Australia's most spectacular winery set-ups. We'll start the day by showing you how to swirl, sniff & slurp and then you'll be ready to taste some of Yering Station's award winning benchmark classic Australian wines. We then head to Rochford's Wines, long the benchmark for style and class in the Yarra Valley and the wines also live up to this reputation.  The first 30 minutes will be spent at the tasting table, a great opportunity to make a wine selection for lunch! Then it's into the Restaurant for a superb lunch while taking in magnificent vineyard views

Next is Yering Farm. The old hay shed, situated at the top of the hill overlooking stunning views, has been converted into a charming rustic Cellar Door, oozing with character. The Cellar Door proudly showcases antique cooper tools used by pioneer winemakers over a century ago. A fantastic environment to enjoy superb wines made with traditional winemaking techniques.  Finally, we visit Domaine Chandon.  French Champagne company Moet & Chandon's Australian production house Domain Chandon is the perfect way to finish the day with a guided tour through the winery that shows how the wine is made followed by a relaxing glass of Australia's best bubbly with tasty light platters and a view that will leave you in awe.

We leave the Yarra Valley back to Melbourne, dropping off around 4.30-5.30pm. Hotel pick and drop off is not provided on this tour to maximize the time spent at the Yarra Valley. We offer 6 pick up locations which are conveniently located around the city within 5 minutes walk of most city hotels. The bus seating capacity ranges between 21 - 24 Passengers.

City Sights & Penguin Parade: $109
Experience the beautiful sights of Melbourne, enjoy the shopping, sports complex and universities.  During the city tour this morning, visit the Fitzroy Gardens, with entry to Captain Cook's Cottage.  See Parliament House, the 'MCG', Rod Laver Arena, Flinders Street Station, and St. Patrick's Cathedral.  Stop for morning tea in the Botanical Garden Cafe (own expense) and see the famous Shrine of Remembrance. Travel past the Grand Prix race track over Westgate Bridge for panoramic view of Melbourne.

Travel around Westernport Bay to arrive at Warrook Cattle Farm, where you will see sheep, cattle, kangaroos and Australian native birds.  Cross over to Philip Island by road bridge, and visit koalas in their natural habitat at the Koala Conservation Centre. See the Nobbies rock formations overlooking one of the most treacherous oceans in the world, Bass Strait. Arrive at the famous Penguin Parade and watch the nightly ritual at Summerland Beach, as the little penguins march up the sand to their nesting places.  A stop is made in the town of Cowes for dinner (own expense).  The coach returns to Melbourne by approx 10:30pm/11:30pm.  Please note that meals are not included and therefore to be purchased at own expense.
